Pre-operative Instructions

  1.  It is important that someone come with you to drive you home after surgery. Please plan on leaving us a phone contact for the remainder of the day of surgery.
  2. A loose fitting shirt or blouse will make it easier to take your blood pressure. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
  3. Prior to surgery, you should not eat or drink anything for 8 hours, with the exception of liquids you can see through. (E.G., water, apple juice, weak tea, etc.
  4. Someone should be with you at home for the first 3-4 hours to assist with any problems. (6-8 hours if you’ve received sedative medication.)
  5. Please have Tylenol or Advil available at home following surgery.

  6. A list if dietary suggestions for up to 1 week pre-operatively and 2 weeks pos-operatively will be provided.
  7. Relaxing the muscles attached to the Jaw bone following surgery when yawning, sleeping, exercising, speaking and swallowing may increase the efficiency of wound healing.
